How Does PRP Work?
Platelet rich plasma therapy can take advantage of the body's ability to naturally heal by taking platelets from the blood to greatly accelerate the process.
When your body begins the healing process, it sends platelets to the trauma site to initiate a speedy recovery.
PRP works by using a platelet rich plasma centrifuge machine to curate these platelets by using your blood.
Normally, your body produces around 150,000 platelets per liter. However, the machine can create a volume of around 1,000,000 platelets per liter, giving us a high concentration of super-healing platelets.
When we use PRP, we transfer this high concentration of platelets directly to the trauma site. This creates highly differentiated cells, which is critical to healing and rebuilding tissue.
It is also linked to rebuilding bone at a faster rate since it creates bone morphogenetic protein. This is important if you are getting a bone graft in your mouth, which can take up to a year to grow and recover from on its own.
